Atletico Madrid are in the market for a left-back, and they have a former Barcelona defender at the top of their wish list.

Atletico Madrid are reported to be weighing up a summer transfer move for Barcelona's La Masia graduate Alejandro Grimaldo.

The 27-year-old Spanish left-back who played for Benfica has been subject to transfer speculation in various windows and is set for a move away from the Portuguese League as his contract expires this season.

He is said to be of interest to Atletico Madrid, who are in the market for a player in the position after Reinildo Isnard Mandava suffered a long-term injury.

Atletico Madrid are in search of a left-back, as Reinildo is out for the season and the effect of the long-term injury on his abilities are unknown.

Renan Lodi, who is on loan at Nottingham Forest, is expected to make his move to the Tricky Trees permanent, and Sergio Reguilon, who is at Atletico Madrid on loan, will return to Tottenham.

Grimaldo will be available for free, and his talents will come at a huge bargain for Atletico Madrid, who are not the most liquid of clubs.

Grimaldo for Benfica

Grimaldo left the Barcelona subsidiaries in 2016 and has since become one of Europe's most sought-after left-backs.
