Depay arrived Barcelona in June 2021 on a two-year contract, after turning down lucrative offers in Europe to join the Catalan giants.

Depay netted 13 times in 30 appearances for Barca but his future was thrown into doubt following an injury in 2022.

Following the dismissal of Roald Koeman, Depay struggled for form and fitness, as he found it uneasy to break into Xavi’s plans.

Things got worse for the Dutchman after the arrival of Robert Lewandowski in the summer of 2022, which saw the club strip him of the number 9 jersey in favour of the prolific Polish striker.

Since then, Depay had been constantly linked with a move away from the Catalans, while seeing less game time until his switch to LaLiga rivals Atletico in January 2023.

Depay has already scored four goals in eight appearances for Atletico in the league this season.
