Inter Milan CEO reveals that Lukaku will return to Chelsea after his loan move.

Romelu Lukaku is currently on loan at Inter Milan from Chelsea, and although he has consistently expressed his desire to continue at Inter, the Italian club's CEO, Beppe Marotta, says he will return to Chelsea at the end of his loan.

After an explosive interview and failing to fit into Thomas Tuchel's plans, the 29-year-old striker pushed for a loan move back to his former club Inter Milan.

Marotta, according to Sky Sports today, revealed that Lukaku will return to Chelsea at the end of the season when his loan deal runs out, regardless of how well he plays.

Lukaku rejoined Inter on loan last summer for a £6.9 million loan fee after signing from Chelsea the summer before for £100 million.

Lukaku's loan move back to Inter was without an obligation to buy, and the Inter CEO has now confirmed that the player will return to Chelsea, implying that Inter do not plan to make the move permanent.

"The loan was for one season so on June 30, regardless of how well he plays, he’ll go back to Chelsea,” Marotta told Sky Italia.

Lukaku's season has been marred by injuries, and although he scored the crucial goal in the first leg that ensured Inter qualified on aggregate after a 0-0 draw in the second leg against Porto, he has almost managed five strikes this season.

Lukaku has only scored five goals this season in 18 appearances, and the Inter chief admits Lukaku has not been his best self this season.

“This has been an unprecedented season - I’m referring, of course, to the World Cup. Lukaku hasn’t found the fitness he needs to play his best football.

"He’s still not at his best or the player we got to see in years gone by."

Lukaku does not want to return to Chelsea

Chelsea have struggled for goals this season, and although Lukaku does not want to return to Stamford Bridge, as revealed by Thierry Henry, the player could return to provide the goals Graham Potter needs.
