24-year-old man who racially abused Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been punished

Antonio Neill has been banned from every stadium in England for racially abusing Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

The 24-year-old sent a racist message to Toney on October 14, 2022 which the English footballer shared as a picture on Instagram.

Northumbria Police supported by the Metropolitan Police launched a full investigation into the hate crime and traced the message to a suspect who was then living in the North Shields area.

On January 25, Neill, pleaded guilty to sending an offensive message when he appeared before magistrates in Newcastle.

The 24-year-old received his judgement at the same court on Monday March 14, 2023 when he was handed a 4-month sentence suspended for 2 years for the online offence, including a 3-year football banning order.

The ruling is the first of its kind to be issued under the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022.
