The judgement has been passed labelling Manchester United and Brazilian midfielder Casemiro as an ill-disciplined player, at least after being sent off for a second time in three games.

The 31-year-old was sent off in the 34th minute during Manchester United's goalless draw against Southampton for a foul on Carlos Alcaraz after VAR intervention.

However, Manchester United head coach Eric ten Hag has come out to defend the under-fire midfielder saying Casemiro is a tough but fair player.

"Everyone who knows something about football knows what is bad and fair," Ten Hag noted in the post-match press briefing.

"When you pause it (the challenge), it looks bad, but I tell you, Casemiro is a really fair player, tough but fair."

"It shows in over 500 games in the big leagues he has played in where he was never sent off."

Casemiro will now miss an FA Cup tie and three premier league games as he serves his four-game suspension.

The Dutchman also credited the collective team effort from his charges as they played for almost an hour with ten men.

"The team showed a good fighting spirit; playing ten men for that time was tough, but we defended well and had good counter breaks and opportunities, so I think the performance was quite good."

Third-placed Manchester United are now on 60 points, 16 behind table leaders Arsenal and 11 behind second-placed cross-town rivals Manchester City.
