Jose Mourinho has been banned for two games after clashing with match officials during AS Roma’s 2-1 loss to Cremonese on Tuesday night.
The former Chelsea boss was sent off in the opening minutes of the second half by referee Marco Piccinini after an altercation with fourth official Marco Serra.
Consequently, a statement from Serie A has confirmed Mourinho's ban from the touchline for two games. He has also been fined €10,000 (£8,900) following the incident.
"For having contested a refereeing decision in a forceful and provocative manner in the second minute of the second half and repeating this behaviour at the time of sending off," the statement read, per The Mirror.
"Furthermore, for entering the referees’ dressing room and addressing the fourth official with offensive expressions and inferences at the end of the match."
Meanwhile, the former Real Madrid and Manchester United manager has threatened to take legal action against the referee.
"I need to understand if I can take any legal action," said the Portuguese tactician.
"I'm emotional but not crazy. For the first time in my career, a referee has spoken to me in an unjustifiable way.
"To have the reaction I had is because something happened. I need to know now if I can do something from a disciplinary point of view."
Mourinho is now set to miss Roma’s crucial game against Juventus and Sassuolo.
"I don't want to get into the fact that he [Sera] is from Turin, that we have to play Juventus, and he wants me off the touchline," he lamented.
"I don't want to get into that. I want to get into the fact that for the first time in my career, a referee, and in this case a fourth official, spoke to me in an unacceptable way."
This is the third time that Mourinho has been red carded this season, having been sent off during Roma’s matches against Atalanta and Torino.
