The quarterfinals will see Senegal will play the third-placed team in Group C, next Thursday, and Nigeria play Group B's runners-up, next Friday.

The 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations entered its seventh day on Saturday, with one more team - Nigeria - joining the already qualified quadruple of Senegal, Congo, Uganda and Gambia.

While it was a day of joy for the Flying Eagles and Senegal's Cubs, hosts Egypt were left with nothing but tears at full-time as their disappointing run in the competition came to an end.

Here's a summary of the first of the final round of group games.

Senegal in cloud nine with 9 points

Senegal finished with a 100% record on Saturday after they defeated, and dispatched hosts Egypt in a 4-0 game at the Cairo International Stadium.

A second-half hattrick by Pape Demba and another in the 69th minute by Ibou Sane not only meant that the West Africans finished their group campaign with a 100% record, but it also saw them qualify as group winners with nine points.

They now proceed to the quarterfinal stage of the competition where they will face the third-placed team in Group C, next Thursday.

Flying Eagles fly higher

At the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismaila, Mozambique's goalkeeper Kimiss Zavala put up a good performance but was disappointed in the end as the Flying Eagles nicked a 2-0 win.

Nigeria got its win thanks to two first-half screamers from Samson Lawal and Ibrahim Muhammed, who both scored their first of the tournament.

The second half could have seen Nigeria increase their lead through Jude Sunday and Olamilekan Adams, however, Zavala ensured the result stayed decent.

The Flying Eagles will now proceed to next week's Friday's quarterfinal where they could meet either Congo, Uganda, or South Sudan.
