Here is how things panned out on Monday, February 20.

2021 runners-up get positive start

U-20 AFCON: Uganda 2-1 Central Africa Republic

The first game of the day saw Central Africa Republic fail in their fightback to secure any points in Ismaila, with experienced Uganda running off 2-0 winners.

Uganda took the lead and double it in the first 29 minutes of the second-half thanks to goals from captain Isma Mugulusi and John Paul Dembe, however, Boris Gbenou ensured they wouldn't leave the Suez Canal Stadium with a clean sheet, as he pulled one back for CAR deep into stoppage time.

Uganda will now turn their attention to their next match against Congo on Thursday and would hope to go one step closer to surpassing what they achieved in the 2021 tournament.

Gallant debutants fall to former champions

U-20 AFCON: South Sudan 1-2 Congo

The second game at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia saw 2007 champions Congo overcome a late scare from debutants South Sudan to nick a 2-1 victory and all available three points.

The Red Devils until the 83rd minute, had a 2-0 lead thanks to goals by Dou Bassinga and Prince Soussou on either side of half-time before South Sudan responded in the finals minutes of play through Paul Jawa, in what was their first-ever goal at this tournament.

A final attempt from Atiki Abiaza, who was unfortunate to see his shot hit the side netting, could have seen the debutants tie the game and steal a point, however, it was not to be.

The South Sudanese would eagerly anticipate playing the Central African Republic on Thursday after giving the game their all but losing in the end.
