The Bayern Munich boss was upset after Upamecano was red-carded in their loss to Borussia Monchengladbach
Reports in Germany suggest that Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann angrily confronted the referees after his side suffered a 3-2 loss to Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga today.
Nagelsmann accosted the matchday officials
Bayern lost after going down to 10 men after only eight minutes, with Dayot Upamecano seeing a straight red card for a professional foul on Gladbach’s Alassane Plea, and Nagelsmann was incensed at the red card that he deemed to be soft.
It was reported that Nagelsmann charged towards the referee’s dressing room, screaming, “You’ve got to be kidding me, or what?” and then emerged from the room yelling, “My God, my God. A soft-headed bunch!”
Nagelsmann’s fury can be understood since Upamecano’s early red card severely altered the course of the game, but even he will probably admit after some circumspection that the referee made the right call.
Bayern could slip down the table after controversial red card
The controversial red card helped Borussia Monchengladbach to a second victory over Bayern Munich in three Bundesliga games and ensured that Die Fohlen extended their unbeaten run over their illustrious visitors to six games in all competitions.
The result could spell disaster for Bayern Munich, who could drop from the top of the Bundesliga if results elsewhere do not go their way.
Union Berlin could be top of the league by the end of the game week if they manage to secure a win at home against Schalke, who are in last place, and Borussia Dortmund could draw level on points with the Bavarians if they also secure maximum points at home against Hertha Berlin, who are struggling in 19th position.
If Bayern drop from the top of the Bundesliga table, their recent form, which has seen them win only two of their last five Bundesliga matches, will be called into question, and Nagelsmann could see his job under threat.
