The one-week invitational tournament which started on Wednesday serves as a part of the Super Falcons' preparations for the 2023 Women's World Cup.

Nigeria's Super Falcons were handed their second defeat at the Revelations Cup four-nation invitational tournament on Saturday, as Colombia nicked a 1-0 win in Leon.

2022 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Silver Ball winner Linda Caicedo scored the only goal of the game for the South Americans, subjecting Randy Waldrum's side to a seventh consecutive defeat in all competitions.

17-year-old Caicedo, the difference in Leon

The Super Falcons had gone into Saturday's clash at the Leon Stadium on the back of a defeat to Mexico earlier in the week, something coach Waldrum had called a learning process.

The hope, which was to start brightly on Saturday, was but a dream as Colombia got their foot in front as early as the 9th minute.

Following a defensive mix up which was succeeded by a giveaway from Halimatu Ayinde, Caicedo got hold of possession in front of Nigeria's box and sent a left-footed shot past Chiamaka Nnadozie and into the net.

Nigeria tried to respond almost immediately after, however, Toni Payne's cross was cut off with a save from goalkeeper Katherine Tapia.

The Super Falcons then got their best chance of the first half through Rahsheedat Ajibade who shot from range in an effort to beat Tapia, but the Colombian goalkeeper made an easy catch out of it.

The second half started with Nnadozie being forced into making two crucial saves at various moments, something she did brilliantly to deny Catalina Usme and Caicedo from extending the Colombian lead.

At the other end, Tapia also saved Colombia's blushes with a goal-line stop, after a defender nearly turned in a corner kick into her net.

Nigeria to play Costa Rica in final game

With the defeat, the Super Falcons have now lost in five consecutive international friendlies since September 2022, including defeats to the United States, and Japan, and seven in all competitions.

They will take on Costa Rica at midnight on Wednesday, in what will be Nigeria's final game at the Revelations Cup.
