The Super Falcons will look to redeem themselves on Saturday after they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Mexico in their first game.

The Super Falcons will on Saturday, head into their second game at the Revelations Cup four-nations invitational tournament in Leon, Mexico.

Nigeria suffered a 1-0 defeat to hosts Mexico on Wednesday, in what was the side's first game of the invitational tourney.

The Mexicans had the bragging rights at full-time following an 85th-minute goal from Club America's Kiana Palacios.

Mexico's win also meant that for Randy Waldrum's side, they had now lost in four consecutive international friendlies since September 2022, including two to the United States, and another to Japan.

What has been said?

Waldrum, who had earlier referred to the four-nation competition as an opportunity to prepare for the Women's World Cup, reacted to the result against Mexico by saying that his team can only learn from it.

“It’s a learning process for us. It was an opportunity to try new things. New ideas and new tactics,” Waldrum said after the game.

“We started the game strongly though they dominated the last 20 minutes of the first half.

“It’s always disappointing when you concede late in any game. We will learn from this defeat and prepare for our next game."

The invitational competition, which started on Wednesday, February 15 and runs until Tuesday, February 21, is part of the Super Falcons' preparations for their 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup campaign in July.
