Nigeria's Super Falcons were handed a losing start in their opening game at the Revelations Cup four-nation invitational tournament.

A late goal from Club America's Kiana Palacios was all hosts Mexico, needed as they went top of the pack following a draw recorded in the opening game of the tournament.

For Nigeria, the one-week invitational tournament serves as a part of the Super Falcons' preparations for the 2023 Women's World Cup campaign in July.

Oshoala missing from squad against Mexico

Despite being called up for the tournament in the North American nation, Africa Women's Footballer of the Year Oshoala was notably missing as coach Randy Waldrum revealed his squad to take on Mexico.

Captain of the day Rasheedat Ajibade led the Super Falcons headed into a first half that saw little or no action for most of the play.

The Mexicans had the best chances prior to the interval, however, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie pulled off brilliant saves including one against Anika Rodriguez's powerful shot, to keep the Super Falcons in the game.

A couple of changes to bring in fresh legs, were made, and Nigeria got its chance at goal, unfortunately, Ajibade failed to make it count.

Mexico again came close to scoring but like their visitors failed to utilize their chance, after Lizabeth Ovalle missed from close range.
