The Arsenal manager insists it was not a human error that cost Arsenal maximum points in their Premier League clash against Brentford.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has refused to accept that human error was responsible for the goal that was given against his team in their Premier League clash against Brentford on Saturday.

Arsenal looked to be on course for a win after Leandro Trossard put them ahead in the second half.

But Brentford restored parity through Ivan Toney, who headed home a cross from Christian Norgaard in the 74th minute.

Christian Norgaard was in an offside position in build-up to Brentford's goal

However, replays showed that the goal should not have stood as Norgaard had been in an offside position in the build-up to the goal.

Arteta disagrees with PGMOL

Although the goal was reviewed by VAR officials, it was still given, much to the annoyance of Arsenal fans.

But following the encounter, PGMOL, the organisation responsible for appointing referees in the Premier League, apologised to Arsenal, confirming the goal should have been disallowed.

The referees chief, Howard Webb, personally sent an apology to Arsenal, stating the goal was given due to a human error.

However, in his press conference, Arteta rejected the excuse, although he accepted the organisation’s apology.

The Spaniard argued that it was a case of the VAR official, Lee Mason, not understanding his job after he failed to draw the offside line.

"We ended the [Brentford] game, after analysing it with the evidence and images, with a huge anger and disappointment," Arteta told Skysports ahead of the Gunners top of the table clash against Manchester City.

"Because that wasn't a human error. That was a big, big, big not conceiving and understanding your job. That's not acceptable, I'm sorry. And that cost Arsenal two points and that's not going to be restored.

Arteta accepts PGMOL's apology but wants two points back

Arteta said the decision cost Arsenal two points they will have to find somewhere else, but appreciated PGMOL’s decision to take responsibility and apologise for the error.

"So we are going have to find those two points somewhere else in the league. But at the same time, we appreciate the apology and the explanations which were really open to be fair.

"I will be satisfied if they give me the two points back, which is not going to be the case!

"They were serious, open genuine and honest apologies which is really good. But doesn't take away from the fact that we have two less points than we should have in the table.

"Everybody makes errors and mistakes and we are part of that, me the first one in our job. But that was something else. I wasn't having it, the club wasn't having it. And I think it's clear, the consequences of what happened,” Arteta added.

Arsenal face a difficult quest in getting maximum points in their next game as they face Man City at the Emirates on Wednesday.

The Gunners are only three points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s men and will lose their place at the top if they suffer a defeat in the game.
