Liverpool has released a statement reacting to the alleged report's findings

Liverpool has released a statement saying that they are disappointed at the manner in which a report with the import of the UEFA-commissioned independent findings has been leaked and has requested that the report be published in a way fitting its weightiness.

Liverpool cleared of wrongdoing

Liverpool fans had long been accused of inciting a fiasco at the final of the 2022 UEFA Champions League that caused delays to kick off and could have degraded into a football tragedy, but they are set to be exonerated by an independent report that finds no wrongdoing on their part.

Liverpool fans were tear gassed while trying to gain access into the stadium ahead of the 2022 UCL final

In a version of the report leaked by Sky Sports, the independent panel dismissed allegations that Liverpool fans turned up late to the event, or tried to force their way into the stadium in their thousands without tickets or with fake tickets.

Instead, the independent panel points fingers at UEFA, the FFF, and the French police for failing to handle the matter appropriately.

Liverpool left disappointed

Despite the panel's finding in their favour, Liverpool says they have been left hugely disappointed by the manner in which the report was leaked and had hoped that a matter this sensitive would have been treated with more decency.

In a statement released shortly after the news broke, they said, “It’s hugely disappointing that a report of such significance, such importance to football supporters’ lives and future safety, should be leaked and published in this way.

“It’s been over eight months of work by the independent panel and it is only right and proper to publish the contents of the report to our supporters appropriately.”

They have also declined to commet further on the issue until they receive a properly published report of the independent panel’s report through the proper channels.

They conluded their staement by saying “We will await to receive a copy of the report and digest it thoroughly before making any further comment.”
