The Nigerian star could reunite with Gerrard again after their time together with Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.

Former Liverpool star Steven Gerrard could be in line for a reunion with Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo at Southampton.

Aribo had a successful spell under Gerrard during their time together at Rangers.

A partnership formed in Glasgow

The Super Eagles star was Gerrard’s signing from Charlton in 2019, going on to win Rangers young player of the year in his first campaign.

The Super Eagles star played a key role under Gerrard in his second year at the club, helping Rangers finish as unbeaten Scottish Premiership champions.

Aribo won the Scottish Premiership title under Gerrard

Aribo continued his fine performance under Gerrard in his third year, but they never spent the full season together as the ex-Liverpool star went to take charge of Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Seven months later, though, Aribo followed his former manager to the Premier League, joining Southampton on a four-year deal.

Aribo and Gerrard set for a possible reunion

However, the two could now be set for a reunion at Southampton after the Saints sacked their manager Nathan Jones.

Steven Gerrard has been linked with a move to Southampton

Jones arrived to replace Ralph Hasenhüttl but was sacked on Sunday after failing to turn Southampton’s season around.

The Saints are currently looking for a manager to replace the former Luton manager, with Gerrard on their list of potential candidates.

According to The Mirror, Gerrard is one of the options Southampton are looking at as a potential replacement for Jones.

The former LA Galaxy midfielder is currently out of a job after he was sacked by Aston Villa following a poor run of form.

Gerrard is reportedly itching to get back into management and will not mind going back into the dugout at Southampton.

The former Liverpool man has also been linked with a move to Leeds United, who are also in the market for a new manager after sacking Jesse Marsch.
