Nasarawa United, alongside Enyimba, were match winners on Saturday, as they ended their streak of six matches since the start of the 2023 season, without a victory.

Nasarawa United's boss Bala Nikyu has called his team's first win of the 2023 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season a morale boost, adding that it was not his side's intention to get their first three points this late into the season.

The Solid Miners put an end to an excruciating run of five defeats and a draw on Saturday, as they defeated Kwara United 2-0 at the New Jos Stadium.

Goals from the highly-experienced duo of King Osanga and Chinedu Ohanachom in the early moments of either half were enough to give the Solid Miners their first three points of the season at full-time.

Nikyu calls win 'good turnaround'

Speaking after the victory, Nikyu who had come under heavy scrutiny, stated the much-sought win was coming at God's time.

Nasarawa United coach Bala Nikyu

"It's never our wish to push the league to this extent before we start getting the result, however, God's time is the best," the Nasarawa United boss said in a post-match interview.

"It's a good turnaround for us, and hopefully, God has opened the doors for us. This win is a huge morale boost for us to work more.

"At times, if results are not forthcoming, you wonder where the problems are coming from, and you begin to ask where you should start from.

"Positive results cover a lot of things and we appreciate today's outcome despite squandering lots of goal-scoring chances," he added.

Nasarawa United to take newfound form to Benin

While the 2-0 defeat could see Kwara United, drop into relegation places when other fixtures are played on Sunday, the victory might not mean much for Nasarawa United who remains at the base of Group A.

They will now turn their attention to week 8 of the 2023 season, where a trip to high-flying Group A leaders Bendel Insurance, awaits them on February 12.
