I Giallorossi were left to rue numerous missed chances in their Serie A clash against Lecce on Saturday.

Jose Mourinho will go home unhappy tonight after his Roma side failed to take their chances in their 1-1 draw against Lecce in the Serie A clash between the two sides at The Stadio Ettore Giardiniero.

Roma were hoping to consolidate their position in the top four race having beaten Empoli 2-0 last time out.

Even first half

Mourinho named an unchanged side from the side that won last Saturday, and they started the same way.

Roma started the match with three successive corners, but unlike last Saturday, which saw them score twice from corners inside six minutes, Lecce defended well.

Instead, it was the home side that took the lead from a corner after Roger Ibanez, who had scored from a corner last week, directed the ball into his net.

Leece’s lead did not last, however, as they conceded a penalty from a Roma corner after Gabriel Strefezza handled the ball in his box.

Paulo Dybala stepped up to convert the resulting spot kick to put Roma back on level terms.

Mourinho’s men stepped up the gear following the equaliser, with Abraham going close on many occasions.

The England international was presented with two great opportunities in the first half, but he could not beat Wladimiro Flacone in Leece’s goal.

Roma rue missed chances

The second half was more of the same, with Roma creating most of the chances. Still, Mourinho’s men were wasteful in front of goal.

Mourinho waited for a long time before making substitutions, but the Portuguese tactician did bring on Gini Wijnaldum and Ola Solbakken late in the game.

However, the duo could not help Roma find the winning goal. The away side have themselves to blame, though, as they created enough chances to win the game.

Roma had three big chances in the game, missing two, while they also fired 12 shots in total in the game.

But despite the slip-up, Roma remain in the Champions League spot, sitting third with 41 points from 22 matches.
