Haller is truly back with another big win over cancer

Sebastien Haller finally got off the mark for competitive goals for Borussia Dortmund and he managed to do it on a very special day.

Heller is back! Scores on World Cancer Day!

Haller waited more than six months, since July 2022, to play in his first competitive game for his new club after his €31 million transfer from Ajax after being diagnosed with testicular cancer very early in his Dortmund stint.

He spent the next few months in treatment, fighting through surgery and chemotherapy, hoping that he would rejoin his teammates on the field of play.

He finally made his competitive debut for Dortmund in the new year against Augsburg, and today, on World Cancer Day, the day that the world comes together to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment, Haller scored his first goal for the club.

Haller’s goal takes Dortmund closer to top of Bundesliga

Playing in the Bundesliga against Freiburg, Haller rose highest in the box to convert a header from Raphael Guerrero’s cross and set off emotional scenes as he and the Dortmund players and fans celebrated his first goal for the club.

The goal was significant, not only for Haller, but also for Dortmund, as it helped them secure a 5-1 win over Freiburg that took them into the Bundesliga's top three, and level on points with Bayern Munich in second place.
