Everton picked up their fourth win of the season against Arsenal and centre-back James Tarkowski says he hopes it starts a turnaround for the club.

The goal scorer in Everton’s 1-0 win over Arsenal, James Tarkowski, has said he hopes the win against the league leaders serves as a turning point in their season.

Everton were joint-bottom of the Premier League with 15 points prior to the game. The victory over the Gunners moves them up to 18 points and 17th place, just outside the relegation places.

Everton move up the ladder

Everton, buoyed by the home crowd at Goodison Park and inspired by the freshness of a new manager, took the game to Arsenal, matching them for attempts on goal. The Toffees scored the only goal of the game in the 60th minute thanks to a header from James Tarkowski.

"It has been tough for us and the fans and for all the staff in the club. Hopefully this is the turning point for the club, there is a lot of talent here,” Tarkowski told BtSport, per BBC.

"It's taken me a while, I need to score more. What a great time to do it and a great day. It's back to work on Monday and we crack on.

"We've lacked that little bit of grit at times and that's what the fans want. We've seen what it's all about today."

Dwight McNeil on the win

Dwight McNeil, Tarkowski's teammate, also commented on the win. The winger who played on the opposite flank, Alex Iwobi, believes Everton are a good team with the quality of chances they got against the league leaders.

"We know how good they are as a team, but we also know how good we are a team as well with all the chances we had,” McNeil said, per the BBC.

McNeil was with new manager Sean Dyche at Burnley; they have now reunited on Merseyside.
