High-flying Nigerian forwards Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman have been recognised for their fine form in January
Super Eagles forwards Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman have been nominated for the Serie A player of the month award for January 2023.
Osimhen scored five goals and supplied an assist in five league matches played in January for Napoli while Lookman recorded five goals and two assists for Atalanta within the same timeframe.
Both players sit top of the Serie A scorers' chart with Osimhen leading having scored 14 goals in 16 games and Lookman closely behind with 12 goals in 19 games.
Serie A player of the month nominees
The official Serie A Twitter handle posted the five outstanding players of January 2023 and both Osimhen and Lookman were among the nominees.
Osimhen scored in four out of five games he played for Napoli in January and was matched stride for stride by Lookman who also did the same for Atalanta.
The Napoli striker didn't score against Inter Milan but followed it with a streaky run in the following four games against Sampdoria, Juventus, Salernitana and most recently Roma.

The game against Juventus was his standout performance of the month as he inspired Napoli to a 5-1 win with two goals and an assist.
Lookman on the other hand didn't score in the first two league games of the month for Atalanta against Spezia and Bologna.
However, the 25-year-old winger scored two braces against Salernitana and Juventus and one goal in Atalanta's last league game against Sampdoria.

Both Super Eagles stars are nominated for the player of the month award alongside Roma forward Paolo Dybala, Lazio's Luis Alberto and Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan.
