Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong confirmed his departure from Watford with a heartfelt farewell to the fans.

Nigerian defender William Troost-Ekong is on his way to joining Serie A club Salernitana on loan till the end of the season.

The Super Eagles captain confirmed the reports of the move that circulated on Saturday with an emotional farewell message to Watford fans.

The 28-year-old was an unused substitute in Watford’s last game, a 1-1 draw at home to Rotherham but he made sure to wave the fans goodbye for an extended period after the game.

The centre-back has now taken time to say a proper farewell to the clear with a message on his social media, expressing gratitude to his teammates, the fans, club management and coaching staff.

“The moment has come for me to move on from Watford after 3 special seasons shared with everyone involved,” Troost-Ekong kicked off his vote of thanks. 

He continued, “From everyone at the restaurant, security workers, volunteers at the stadium to the medical & office staff and all the rest you have made my time what it was.”

“The coaches and most of all my teammates, I can only say thank you!!!” The 29-year-old continued.

“The Pozzo family for believing in me and the important 5 years of my career at both clubs with the highlight the promotion and a chance to achieve my boyhood dream of playing in the Premier League,” he said, thanking the club owners.

He rounded up with a message specially for the fans, “to all the fans thank you for your support, it has been special going from watching as a boy to stepping on the pitch as a player. As now a fan again I wish for promotion just as much as all of you and will be back watching from the stands in the future. COYH! All the best, Will.”

Troost-Ekong is now expected to finalise his loan move to Salernitana in the Italian top-flight which also includes an obligation to buy, effectively ending his three-year stay at Vicarage road as a Watford player.

The Nigerian played 68 total games in the yellow and black of Watford and will now begin his journey with Salernitana upon confirmation of the move.
