The Atletico Madrid forward becomes the second Nigerian footballer to join the council.

Nigeria's Rasheedat Ajibade has been announced as one of the latest members of FIFPRO’s elite group of Global Player Council (GPC) with the group, rising to 34.

The GPC is tasked with the responsibility of putting men and women professional footballers at the heart of decision-making in international football.

It is also the responsibility of council members regularly to assist FIFPRO and represent its 66 affiliated national player associations during negotiations about global issues that directly affect footballers.

Ajibade join Leon Balogun in Global Player Council

The World's players union on Wednesday announced that its council had risen to 34 members, with Nigeria's Ajibade, Kenya and Farul Constanta's Enez Mango and Zimbabwe and Reims' Marshall Munetsi joining the fray.

The Atletico Madrid forward becomes the second Nigerian to join the council after Leon Balogun was named among the first 29 GPC members last September.

Ajibade will take part: on behalf of footballers in FIFPro's 66 affiliated national player associations, in debating issues ranging from international match calendar, employment standards, the use of personal data and social media abuse.

Voices of players should be heard - Ajibade

Speaking on her new role, the 2022 Women's AFCON topscorer stated that she was ready to use her position to help footballers in Africa and beyond.

“It’s important that the voices of players are heard. I’m looking forward to using my platform to help players in Africa and beyond,” Ajibade said.

Notable members of the GPC include Lucy Bronze, Giorgio Chiellini, Andre Onana, Nicolas Tagliafico, Andre Ayew, Arturo Vidal, Eugenie Le Sommer, Maya Yoshida and Ajara Nchout.
