World 60m record holder hopes that winning the 100m Prefontaine Classic Diamond League will be a breakthrough for him for the rest of the season.

The Prefontaine Classic Diamond League in Eugene is shaping up to be a meet for the history books, one which Christian Coleman hopes he can finally get his first win of the season.

Listed to compete in a stacked men's 100m field that includes world leader Kishane Thompson and back-to-form American rival Trayvon Bromell. So the speedster is lowly rated as a favourite for a famous win.

This is because the world 60m record holder is yet to secure a win this season, nor run under the sub-10s mark like the rest of the field - a huge criterion that could increase his chances of challenging the big guns.

Despite these, Coleman remains optimistic about his chances, especially as he's chasing a record of becoming the second man to do a three-peat in the Prefontaine Classic men's 100m, after Justin Gatlin (2012-2014).

"I think it will be a really big breakthrough for me. So, for me, I just want to get out there. First of all, just have fun and just execute what I know I'm capable of. I've been feeling really good in training, and I feel like the stars are aligning for me. So I just want to get out my own way and get out there and just compete," he said in an interview with Flotrack after the Prefontaine Classic press conference.

Coleman has had a torrid start to the 2025 season, but if he can return to winning ways, it will build his confidence ahead of the US trials later this month, with a chance to make the American World Championships team to Tokyo in September.
