The NFL world has been rocked by a tragic accident involving Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway, whose former agent and longtime business partner Jeff Sperbeck, died following a golf cart crash in California.
Sperbeck, 62, passed away on Wednesday, days after sustaining serious injuries in the Saturday evening incident, ABC News confirmed via the Riverside County Coroner.
According to TMZ Sports, Elway was allegedly driving the golf cart when Sperbeck reportedly fell from the vehicle on the 53200 block of Humboldt Boulevard in La Quinta, a private community popular with high-profile figures.

Despite the incident occurring on Saturday, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office confirmed they were not notified until Monday.
An official investigation has now been launched.
“We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation and will take appropriate action based on the outcome,” the department told ABC News.

Sources close to the situation have said the probe remains in its early stages.
Complicating the matter is the fact that the crash occurred on private property involving a golf cart, rather than a standard road vehicle, meaning regular traffic laws may not directly apply.
Sperbeck was a respected figure in the NFL, having represented over 100 players across a three-decade career.
His long standing partnership with Elway extended well beyond their agent-player dynamic, growing into a close personal and business relationship.
Elway, who led the Denver Broncos to two Super Bowl victories and later held senior executive roles with the franchise, has not made further comment beyond his initial statement.
