Just days after his proudest moment, a young football star’s future is stolen by gun violence.

In a devastating turn of events, 17-year-old DeAngelo Miles, a standout high school football player and recent graduate of Hansberry College Prep in Chicago, was fatally shot just days after celebrating his graduation.

TMZ reports that on Sunday around 3 AM, Chicago police responded to reports of gunfire in the 11900 block of S. Wallace.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities believe the incident may have been a robbery gone wrong, but no suspects have been taken into custody as of now.

Miles had just graduated from Hansberry College Prep on Thursday, where he was not only a dedicated student but also the captain of the school's football team.

Principal Kashawndra Wilson described him as a bright young man with aspirations of joining the Navy.

The school has also announced plans to hold a memorial and balloon release in his honour.

The school's statement expressed deep sorrow, stating, "Our hearts are heavy as we grieve his passing. We extend our deepest sympathies and offer our thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and all those affected by this tragic loss."

Miles' death adds to a growing list of young lives lost to gun violence in Chicago.

Just a few years ago, another high school athlete, Jeremiah Parker, was fatally shot during an attempted carjacking.
